REPORTER: Harry Reasoner

(Los Angeles, California) Artist Karen Helmich does her painting in Seattle; works for city but is paid by federal government [HELMICH - says it's so nice to work again for money.] Ted Sekino paid $135 per week in San Francisco under same government plan; teacher ceramics to school children. In Lob Angeles, 300 actors recently auditioned for play that comes under same federal grant. [Acting coordinator for program, CETA, Anthony CARUSO - says artists pay rent, pay taxes, eat just like rest of us; if there's no work for artist, he goes hungry.]
