(Studio) Federal government commissioned sculptor Claes Oldenburg to build 101 ft. baseball bat to put before new government building in Chicago.
REPORTER: David Brinkley

(Chicago, Illinois) Bat structure is dedicated today. In attendance are Oldenburg and Vice President's wife, Joan Mondale. [Mrs. MONDALE - says it's nice to be in Chicago.] Chicago's baseball teams, White Sox and Cubs, have had lowest batting averages in world; now city has highest bat in world.
