| Abstract: | Senate Judiciary Committee investigates the cover-up of the break in at the Watergate Building. Opening of the afternoon session by Committee Chairman Senator Sam Ervin. Committee Vice Chairman Howard Baker questioning James McCord about the bugging of the Democratic National Committee offices at the Watergate in Washington DC. James McCord testifies to his motivations for being involved with the break-in. Senator Herman Talmadge continues the questioning of James McCord about his accusations that President Nixon and others including John Mitchell were involved. Senator Talmadge also asks about the offers of executive clemency and other points in James McCord's earlier testimony.Senator Edward Gurney asks James McCord on his understanding about the legality of the break-in. James McCord implicates Attorney General John Mitchell who authorized the operation. Also Senator Gurney asks James McCord about payments for work done and payments after the break-in. |
