Title: Senate Watergate Hearings - Commentary

Abstract:

  • After the hearings recess, so the Senators can go vote on pending legislation, CBS anchors George Herman and Nelson Benton comment on the documents that were introduced earlier that afternoon and why they were locked up. George Herman goes on to talk about the plan to gather intelligence and if the White House ever took back that plan.

  • CBS reporter Daniel Schoor talks about Senator Lowell Weicker’s interest in the Internal Security Division and plans for surveillance. Daniel Schoor goes on to discuss why FBI Director J. Edger Hoover didn’t like the plan to gather intelligence as presented by the White House and if the plan was ever rescinded by the White House.

  • Daniel Schoor, Nelson Benton and George Herman discuss the “enemies list”.

  • Daniel Schoor interviews Senator Daniel Inouye about what he wants to know from John Dean and how Dean can be tested. The interview continues with Senator Inouye talking about the questions submitted by the White House and if the White House should refute John Dean’s testimony. .

  • George Herman explains that Senator Joseph Montoya is asking John Dean about statements made by President Richard Nixon about Watergate.
