Title: Inside Story: Photo Opportunity
| Abstract: | Special program that takes a look into the photo opportunites that journalists have. Hodding Carter gives the example of the footage Ron Simmons and Gary Harris captured on camera in Jacksonville, Alabama. For 37 seconds, they captured a man setting himself on fire- trying to kill himself. Even though this record portrays one man's misery, it made these two journalists brief celebrities. They were given a "photo opportunity" and they took it. But, this video recording also brings up the ethics of journalism. Simmons and Harris should have prevented Andrews from hurting himself instead of trying to capture a good picture.
Dramatic pictures on television have always played a major role in moving the country. |
