Title: The Vanishing America Re: US Farming
| Abstract: | ABC News special report on the economic crisis facing American farmers hosted by Marshall Frady. American farmers face the worst economic recession since the great depression because surplus production has driven the price of wheat down while production costs have risen dramatically. Many farmers survive only on credit and farm debt is the highest it has ever been. Government implements PIC (Payment in Kind) to try to relieve pressure.
Interviews with Wayne and Laureen Medford, farmers; Joe Fanger, farmer; Bill Fisher, President of American State Bank; Bill and Foresta Pollman, farmers; Rep. Tom Daschle, South Dakota; John Block, Secretary of Agriculture; Governer Ted Schwinden, Montana; and John Stinslin, farmer. |
