Headline: New York City / .44 Caliber Killer Arrest

Abstract:

(Studio) New York City police arrest David Berkowitz as .44 caliber killer.
REPORTER: David Brinkley

(NYC) Berkowitz is arrested, booked and is now in mental ward for tests. Just after midnight and soon after arrest, police display .44 caliber gun found in suspect's car. Lab tests indicate it's gun used in killings. Also found in Berkowitz' possession are poem in killer's handwriting, more guns and several rounds of ammo; police say suspect had planned next attack for Long Island discotheque. Parking ticket Berkowitz got same night as last killing, near site of killing, led to arrest. Police found car with machine gun and letter in it, and staked out suspect's Yonkers, New York, apt. [Chief of detectives John KEENAN - describes arrest. Doesn't want to say anything to prejudice prosecution, but will say Berkowitz made admissions.] Arraignment proceedings cited. Berkowitz is now in Kings Cnty. Hospital in Brooklyn, to begin psychiatric testing; is same hospital where last victim, Stacy Moskowitz, died.
