(DC: Sheilah Kast) Colonel Oliver North's allegation that Iran arms-for-hostages scheme in which funds were diverted to Nicaraguan Contras was initially proposed by Amiram Nir, aide to then Israeli Prime Min. Shimon Peres recalled. [Today, PERES - denies chgs.] North said reputedly making claim during meeting with Attorney General Edwin Meese who passed information on to Senate Intelligence Committee; implications of North's chgs., if true, for both Israel and John Poindexter considered. White House response to indications that President Reagan's aides were discussing operation prior to date administration claims noted.
