(Studio: Sam Donaldson) US-USSR summit meeting between President Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev mentioned. Report introduced.

(Geneva, Switzerland: Rick Inderfurth) Arrival of chief United States arms negotiator Max Kampelman here for completion of medium-range (INF) missile treaty reported [KAMPELMAN - says he hopes to finish talks with USSR representative Yuli Vorontsov.] One issue to be resolved noted to be verification. [KAMPELMAN - says verification is necessary if treaty is to be ratified by Senator] Verification issues outlined onscreen. [KAMPELMAN, VORONTSOV - hope to complete work before summit.] Possibility discussed of further high- level mtgs. prior to summit between Secretary of State George Shultz and USSR 's Eduard Shevardnadze if treaty not ironed out now.
