[First STUDENT - (thru signing translator) says it would be better if we had deaf president] [Second STUDENT - says protests will continue until we get deaf president] Gallaudet noted never having had hearing-impaired pres. Stmt. by university trustees chairperson Jane Bassett Spilman that deaf people not ready to function in hearing world quoted. [Actress Marlee MATLIN - (thru signing translator) says deaf people were ignored by university administration] [Newly-elected president Elisabeth Ann ZINSER - says she is looking forward to productive relationship with campus.]
