[In Gaza Strip, Israeli patrol LDR. - describes shooting Palestinian.] Opposition from both sides to Shultz plan reiterated.

(Rome, Italy: Jeanne Meserve) Pope John Paul II reported backing Shultz's peace plan; scenes shown from Rome. [SHULTZ - says he's glad to go to Middle East with Pope's blessing.] Pope's actions in support of Palestinians' cause recalled. [Italian foreign minister Giulio ANDREOTTI - (thru translator) says solution to problems in Israeli-occupied territories won't come in few days.] Shultz's expectations noted. [SHULTZ - says there is an answer.] Shultz's upcoming tour of Middle East previewed.
