(Studio: Peter Jennings) Scenes shown of Secretary of State James Baker meeting with United States troops in Saudi Arabia and with leaders of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait's government in exile from whom he sought financial aid. Treasury Secretary Nicholas Brady noted getting promises of financial support from Japan and South Korea. Western Europe ministers reported voting to provide financial aid to Egypt, Jordan and Turkey, but declining to contribute to United States military operation.
