(Pentagon: Bob Zelnick) Anti-US demonstration in Haiti that prevented the landing of United States troops featured; scenes shown from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The agreement reached last summer that provided for United States troops to work on construction projects and the professionalization of the Haitian military noted. The split within President Clinton's administration over what to do noted: Secretary of Defense Les Aspin and CIA director James Woolsey said urging caution until violence is abandoned while Secretary of State Warren Christopher, ambassador to United Nations Madeleine Albright and National Security Adviser Anthony Lake back a prompt deployment.
