(Studio: Peter Jennings) The first-ever meeting shown of Vietnamese general Vo Nguyen Giap, the commander of Vietnam's victory over the United States and then-US Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, who is in Vietnam to organize a conference on the lessons learned in that war. [McNAMARA - mentions the Gulf of Tonkin incident.] The 1964 naval incidents in the gulf that led President Lyndon Johnson to order attacks on the North Vietnamese recalled. The history of the Tonkin Gulf resolution recalled; wartime footage shown.
