(Los Angeles: Jane Clayson) The outcome of the first weeks of teaching in the California school system under Proposition 227, which requires English- only in place of bilingual education, examined; scenes shown from Park Avenue Elementary. [First grade teacher Monica MARTINEZ - describes the students' reactions to English-only.] The issue of parental waivers, which allows the use of Spanish in the classroom, noted. [Prop 227 author Ron UNZ - comments on the waivers.]
