(Studio) Senator Vance Hartke and Senator Lowell Weicker propose bill to build rail system between Boston and DC. Could make Boston to New York or New York to Washington, DC trip in 2 hrs. - this is faster than airplane trip downtown to downtown. Cost is $5 billion for 2 phase program. First phase cost is $625 million - less than eyesore, 194 mile Connecticut turnpike, which is polluting and overcrowded. Second phase would provide for 400 mph. ground travel. Cost is $4.5 billion. This mass transit program is badly needed if United States is to face 20th century.
