(Studio) For election billed as apathetic voter turnout has been remarkably heavy. 80 million Americans may go to polls. Early tallies (most from Tennessee) show Nixon leading McGovern 68% to 30%. Incumbent Republican Tennessee Senator Howard Baker leads Representative Ray Blanton 60% to 40%. Presidential candidate who receives 270 electoral votes wins. Republicans must win net gain of 41 House seats for control. 33 Senator seats contested and Republicans need net gain of 5 for control. Kentucky and IN polls closed. Illinois polls close in 1 hour; 26 electoral votes to be decided there.
