(Studio) Beef prices a continuing problem in Nixon administration
REPORTER: Howard K. Smith
(Mobile, Alabama) Food chains voluntarily cutting beef prices at urging of Price Commission Prices down 10-15 cent/lb. Internal Revenue Service finds retail markup of beef higher than in August, 1971. [Supermarket executive Joel O. SWANSON - says supermarket did use category pricing method, meaning entire market operating under 1 total gross profit margin. Now changing to item pricing.] Prices will change more under new system, but won't go up so fast.
