(Studio) Senator passed compromise anti-busing proposal offered by Senators Mike Mansfield and Hugh Scott. Senator passes stronger measure, proposed by Senator Robert Griffin, today.

(DC) Griffin's amendment, approved by 3 vote margin would prohibit Fed. Cts. from ordering anymore busing for integration. 17 Senators, include 5 Democrat President candidates, were absent. Later roll call could reverse vote. [GRIFFIN - says no one, include blacks, wants busing without quality education.] [Senator Philip HART - disappointed that measure was adopted, but confident it will be overturned.] [Senator Hubert HUMPHREY - confronted with his absence at vote, says the President is also out of town.]
