(Studio) Supreme Court refuses to stop shipment of 91 Army reservists to Vietnam. Reservists say they were inadequately trained. Report on successful West coast military unit's evasion of Vietnam.

(Fort Lewis, WA) 1st squadron of 18th armored cavalry regular is National Guard unit from Los Angeles, California. Army says men not needed in Vietnam, but their equipment is. Rptd. many of unit didn't want to go and felt they weren't ready. [GUARDSMAN - says men afraid to go.] [2nd GUARDSMAN - says afraid due to lack of training.] [CMDR.-says most of squad were resigned to go and do good job.] Unit meets in pizza place to discuss law suit. Unit averages 2 years college per man. [3rd GUARDSMAN - says thinks call-up illegal.] 355 men sign as ptys. when suit filed. Some say their fitness records were doctored. [4th GUARDSMAN - ordered to change records.] [CMDR. - says men claimed they did this.] [4th GUARDSMAN - says 10 men did this under orders.] [CMDR. - says officers or non-cmsnd. officers would stand for it.] [5th GUARDSMAN - says morale needed.] [4th GUARDSMAN - says intelligent man will know he's not well trained.] [CMDR. - calls squadron finest trained in Army.] Unit supposed to have more and better training. Some volunteer for Vietnam and are angry with regard to publicity. [6th GUARDSMAN - says point camera elsewhere or he'll shove it down your throat.] Some have gone to Canada. Rptdly. number of men is high. 4 shown living in British Columbia. [EX-SOLDIER - says can't kill anyone.] [2nd EX-SOLDIER - says National Guard used to be joke.] [3rd EX-GUARDSMAN - says joined Guard as draft dodger.] [CMDR. - says a lot don't want to go to Vietnam. They were scared.] [2nd EX-GUARDSMAN - says willing to take chance if cause good enough. Commander won't be dying.] [3rd EX-GUARDSMAN - says Commander's idea of courage not mine.] Civilian group challenges system.
