(Studio) Report on Fortas nomination.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite
(DC) Senator Mike Mansfield moves to call up Abe Fortas nomination. Motion to set off filibuster. Rptd. Senator leadership had made deal to dispose of nomination with resolution declaring no court vacancy exists due to Chief Justice Earl Warren's conditional retirement. Senator Dirksen admits he mentioned idea with Senator Robert Griffin. [DIRKSEN - says if such resolution introduced, time on nomination would be cut short. Question may or may not come up.] [GRIFFIN - says lots of Senators previously for Fortas would like to get off hook.]
