(Studio) Mayor Richard Daley holds news conference

(Chicago, Illinois) Daley demands 1 hour prime time from 3 networks to defend brutality charges. [DALEY - states request to tell what occurred in city during convention week Has documented report of what really occurred on 15th floor of Conrad Hilton Hotel. Asked Supt. Police, Fire Commissioner, Commissioner Health, Corporation Council, and Department Investigation for full report on all that occurred during convention Was inaccurately reported by most of media. Says he will answer questions when comprehensive report ready.] Some groups have canceled plans for convention here. [President American Psychological Association George MILLER - says group voted now not to hold 1969 convention in Chicago because said members wouldn't come. Felt going to city would condone activities seen in city ] [Chicago Convention Bureau Gerald SANDERSON - says conv. cancellation due to opinions gathered from television observations without spking. to facilities of confirmed space might cause legal damage claims. This is unprecedented as is unilateral cancellation of confirmed agreement.] Major letters received by city hall praise Mayor and police. [Cook Cnty. Sheriff Joe WOODS - compares Vice President's call for blue ribbon committee investigation to inviting him to look at work you men do. I'm not qualified.] With Yippies, Mobilization, National Guard and federal troops gone, some neighborhoods indicate support for Daley. Crowd cheers and sings "God Bless American"
