REPORTER: Harry Reasoner
(DC) 1,000s telegrams ask McCarthy to lead new party Won't do that or support Hubert H. Humphrey. He told supporters he has neither time nor money to build new party Was surprised Rockefeller didn't do it. May leave his name on ballot in 1 of 2 larger states. To work for like-minded. Senator candidates like O'Dwyer in New York, Hughes in Iowa, Cranston in California, Church in ID, Eagleton in Missouri and Gilligan in Ohio. McCarthy suspects Nixon may be better able to end war than Humphrey.
