(NYC) FTC (Federal Trade Commission) accused 3 major producers of deceptive advertising of nonprescription painkillers.

(NYC) Bufferin, Excedrin, Anacin and Bayer aspirin, accounting for 2/3 sales of nonprescription painkillers in US, accused. [TV commercials replayed.] [Robert PITOFSKY, FTC (Federal Trade Commission) - claims deceptive in comparing products with no basis for comparison.] [Frank MAYERS, president, Bristol-Myers Products Div. - says Bufferin and Excedrin are superior products. Bufferin works faster. Excedrin is extra-strength.] FTC (Federal Trade Commission) order to correct ads will likely be appealed.
