(Studio) Senator Edward Kennedy pleads guilty to leaving scene of auto accident that killed Mary Jo Kopechne. Got 2 mos. suspended sentence and 1 year probation. Plea spares him open court hearing. Ted Kennedy to give statement shortly.

[KENNEDY - says to make report to people of Massachusetts tonight.] [Police Chief Dominick ARENA -says case is closed.] [Prosecutor Walter STEELE - says sentence appropriate. Investigation closed.] Certain questions still need to be answered.
