(Studio) Word of desegregation statement reaches NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) Convention

(Jackson, Mississippi) 6,000 delegates disappointed but not surprised. [U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary George ROMNEY - says administration determined to carry out law.] [NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) Executive Director Roy WILKINS - says it's nothing and much too late. Hardship on 2 million children who attend desegregated schools. Admin. allowing more time on top of 15 years for compliance. Almost enough to make you sick.] [Charles EVERS - says young blacks will tell me and Wilkins `we told you so'; system doesn't work.] Conf. mood may change.
