(Studio) Civil Rights leader, Charles Evers, became 1st black mayor of biracial Mississippi town since Reconstruction.
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner
(Fayette, Mississippi) Inaugural Parade for Evers. Negro Justice of Peace, not out-going white mayor, gives oath. [EVERS - repeats oath.] Major whites not there. [EVERS - guarantees no more hate taught in town.] Former Attorney General Ramsey Clark, White House representatives, and Kennedy family there. Inaugural Ball at Natchez.
