(Studio) President Nixon to begin draft reform.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite
(DC) President Nixon hopes to retire Selective Service Director General Lewis Hershey in 90 days. Advisor John Ehrlichman screens for successor. Plans to withdraw more troops and suspend draft for month or more while Congress considers lottery system and other changes. 19-yr. olds to go 1st.
