(Studio) Cease-fire declared by IRA (Irish Republican Army) goes into effect tonight.
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner
(Londonderry, North Ireland) Cease-fire offers best hope for peace in North Ireland since present conflict started 4 years ago. [January, 1972, film of Catholic civil rights demonstrators shown.] British troops called in to restore law and order, and guerrilla war erupted. Community, sickened by unrelenting violence, forces IRA (Irish Republican Army) to offer cease-fire. [N. Ireland Parliament, Ivan COOPER, M.P. - says if IRA (Irish Republican Army) continued campaign they would have eroded any support left for them in community.]
