(Studio) Democratic National Party names Mrs. Patricia Roberts Harris as temporary Convention Credentials Committee Chairperson Regular Democrats win.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite
(DC) Senators Fred R. Harris and George S. McGovern support Senator Harold E. Hughes for the post. Senators Henry M. Jackson and Hubert H. Humphrey for Mrs. Harris. Senator Edmund Muskie in between. [HUMPHREY - says hope we learned something from 1968. Nixon didn't win; we lost. Task ahead won't be easy.] Harris won, 72-31. [HUGHES - thanks those who supported him. This race had nothing to do with reform. Opposition surprised me.] Muskie may have offended both sides by not lending total support to either side. Democratic party chairperson Lawrence F. O'Brien, who supported Harris, may have set stage for liberal walkout.
REPORTER: David Schoumacher
