(DC) Chou En-lai happy over decision; Peking, China, in no hurry with normal relations with US; People's Republic of China, to get United States to pull back on military protection of Taiwan and to break up Japan's embrace of Taiwan, China. People's Republic of China-Japan relations to shape E. Asia more than American-Chinese. China, P.R., trying to drive wedge between Washington, DC and Tokyo, Japan. United States doesn't have as much power in United Nations as before. Recession is threat.
