(Studio) Report on great Chicago fire.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite
(Chicago, Illinois) On October 8, 1871, it hadn't rained in 75 days, so fire kept burning. 18,000 bldgs. burned, 100,000 homeless and 300 dead. Photos of fire shown. Peshtigo, WI, suffered same fate as Chicago. Report tells of Mrs. O'Leary's cow starting fire. Fire Department built on same corner where O'Leary's barn was located.
