(Studio) Federal Aviation Administration asks airlines for new measures to prevent weapons from being brought aboard planes in carry-on luggage. In letter to International Air Transportation Association, Federal Aviation Administration Chief John Shaffer says Federal Aviation Administration prefers not to make official ruling to this effect.

(Los Angeles, California) Every passenger flying Pacific Southwest Airlines now goes through 100% security check. Identification, carry-on luggage checked, people screened with metal detector. [Pacific Southwest Airlines passengers don't mind inconvenience.] Of last 15 planes hijacked for ransom only 1 (the 1st) was successful.
