(Studio) Heavy fighting in Laos; biggest tank battle of Indochina war for control of Hill 31.
REPORTER: Roger Mudd

(Khe Sanh, South Vietnam) United States pilot Lieutenant Tom McLaughlin shot down in air strike on Hill 31. [McLAUGHLIN - describes hiding under vegetation 22 hrs. from North Vietnam.] North Vietnam tanks attacking Hill 31 shot at by United States copters. [WO Ron PEPPER - says had 4 or 5 direct hits on tanks, but didn't knock them out.] Scheduled helicopter trip into Laos for reporters canceled due to risk.
