(Studio) Battle for Highway 9 raging in Laos. Enemy blocks South Vietnam withdrawal; captures bridge to E.; attacks with tanks to West United States artillery rushed to border to support South Vietnam withdrawal.

(Highway 9, South Vietnam) United States artillery base near border shelled by North Vietnam. [sergeant Fred HOWARD - says enemy shelling keeps us pinned down, can't shoot own artillery; 2 of 4 guns damaged; supplies running low; some GIs ready to crack up due to constant shelling.] Unit wanted to fall back for 3 days; road not safe from ambushes.
