(Studio) Environmentalists fighting in Snake River area.
REPORTER: Roger Mudd

(ID-OR border) Power company wants to build 2 dams on Snake River. [Power Company spokesperson Hugh SMITH - have trouble because good places for power plants also scenically beautiful.] Dams flood canyon; drastically affecting environment [Senator Robert West PACKWOOD - says Oregon wants to preserve what have.] Power company plans to create tourist attraction. [PACKWOOD - says using power company logic, should build highway along river.] [SMITH - doesn't think should assume man intruder upon nature.] Dams will be built in 1975 unless Congress acts to preserve canyon.
