(Studio) American plane hijacked to Algeria by 3 men and 2 women from Detroit, flies to Barcelona, Spain, on way back to US. When plane landed in Algeria, officials confiscated $ 1 million ransom. Says country gives asylum to political refugees but extortionists don't fall into that category.

(State Department) United States government hesitates to take action against Algeria for granting asylum to hijackers because that nation is potentially Am's. largest foreign oil supplier.
