(Studio) President Nixon makes annual economy report to Congress
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite
(DC) [Council Econ. Advisers Chairperson, Dr. Herbert STEIN - says economy indicators show strong upward trend.] Nixon's predictions on GNP, unemployment, inflation for last year too optimistic. Predictions for this year a bit more cautious. Federal budget spending ceiling challenged in House Appropriations Committee and Chairperson George Mahon got Budget Director George Schultz to agree on raised taxes if budget can't be held down.
