(Studio) 57 pounds heroin (worth $12 million), seized in real-life version of French Connection, stolen.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite
(NYC) Heroin stored in building near police headquarters in New York City along with other narcotics contraband. Police can sign out dope for use as evidence in trials. 3 years ago somebody passing as detective signed out heroin of French Connection and replaced with white powder. [Police Commissioner Patrick MURPHY - says similar thing may happen again. Need equipment to analyze contents of boxes when they return to storage.]
