(Studio) Iowa cattlemen hold Washington, DC news conference to note continued high retail beef prices while price of cattle drops $60-$70 a head.
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner

(Sioux City, Iowa) [Iowa Beef Processors chairperson, J. Robert KEMP - says middlemen are in a tight squeeze; earnings down.] Efficiency of packing (for example, boxed meat) has caused success in Iowa packing house Packers say they pass lower costs to consumer. [Iowa Beef Processors Vice President Paul ENGLER - says there is a time lag in price changes from meat producer to consumer, but lower prices are on way.]

(Studio) Agriculture Department confirms sharp drop in beef cattle prices. Hog prices up, as are wheat prices, however.
