(Studio) Senator passes Constitution amendment guaranteeing equal rights for women. States must now ratify measure.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite

(Capitol Hill) If ratified by 3/4 states within 7 years, this amendment could have wide repercussions: military draft, child support, sex crimes, labor legislation. Floor mgr, Senator Birch Bayh, says measure designed to make men and women equal under law. Senator Sam Ervin led opposition. Bennett, Buckley Cotton, Fannin, Goldwater, Hansen, and Stennis vote with Ervin against amendment.
