(Studio) Nixon must appeal ruling to Supreme Court to turn over White House tapes to Judge John Sirica before deadline ends at midnight.
REPORTER: Roger Mudd

(White House) So far, all efforts to reach compromise between White House lawyers and special Watergate prosecutor Archibald Cox fail. Attorney General Elliot Richardson still tries to negotiate compromise.

(DC) No appeal comes to Supreme Court at day's end, but appeal for more time could be made to Chief Justice Warren Burger.
