(Studio) Indian group demands murder charge against man suspected of killing Indian in Custer, South Dakota. Man presently charged with manslaughter.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite

(Custer, South Dakota) [American Indian Movement leader Dennis BANKS - says thinks protest will make people think twice before killing another Indian.] Fighting erupted yesterday when officials refused to change manslaughter charge. Indians set fire to courthouse and chamber of commerce. Wreck several other bldgs. and some police cars. [Custer resident Ronald SHERWOOD - says if Indians return will try to drive them off.] Banks says expects more Indians to arrive within next few days.
