(Studio) Senator begins Watergate hearings.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite

(DC) [Senator Sam. ERVIN - calls committee to order. Says if Watergate charges true, those guilty have taken right of every American to free choice at political elections.] [Former Nixon campaign committee employee Robert ODLE - says didn't know of Watergate break-in until later told of it.] Senator Howard Baker questions Odle about secret file of Jeb Magruder. [ODLE - says never saw blue Watergate file. Blue file contained things Gordon Liddy gave Magruder. Took home files Magruder asked him to keep over wkend. of Watergate arrests.] [BAKER - tells witness Bruce Kehrli, special President assistant, will be questioned later with regard to drilling and opening of Howard Hunt's safe.] Kehrli questioned about White House chain of command. sergeant Paul Leeper testifies about arrests of Watergate spies, James McCord and Miami 4.
