(Studio) Nixon lowers oil import barriers to alleviate fuel crisis.
REPORTER: Howard K. Smith

(Jay, Florida) Oil companies here drilling 16,000 foot to get to estimated 300 million barrels oil under ground. Companies restore landscape when finished and have no difficulty with environmentalists. [Humble Oil spokesperson Dr. Richard HOWE - says company works with government to conform to air quality regulations.] Elsewhere environmental concerns slow oil production. Santa Barbara oil spill of 1969 ruined beaches, killed wildlife and fish. Offshore drilling now slowed. In Alaska environmental concerns slow construction of oil pipeline. Oil prices will continue to grow and more oil will have to be imported.
