(Studio) Reverend Ralph Abernathy resigns as President of SCLC. Says financial problems within Southern Christian Leadership Conference cause for resignation. Abernathy replaced Dr. Martin Luther King after his assassination.
REPORTER: Roger Mudd

(Atlanta, Georgia) Abernathy places blame for lack of funds on black people. [ABERNATHY - says black people with jobs resulting from Southern Christian Leadership Conference help should give funds to Southern Christian Leadership Conference rather than spending money frivolously.] Abernathy says Mrs. Martin Luther King didn't help SCLC. [ABERNATHY - reports Mrs. King didn't support Southern Christian Leadership Conference as she should have, since Southern Christian Leadership Conference was to be memorial for Martin Luther King. No need to build another organization headed by Mrs. King.] Mrs. King issues press statement, but doesn't answer Abernathy's charges. Mrs. King says sorry to see Abernathy leave SCLC.
