(Studio) Garbage collectors and other municipal workers strike in Baltimore, MD.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite
(Baltimore, Maryland) Collectors demand higher wages. [Mayor William SCHAEFFER - states Baltimore can't pay more money to garbage collectors.] [Union local president Ray CLARKE - says strikers prepared to continue work stoppage till honorable conclusion reached.] Guards at Baltimore jail also on picket line as sympathy measure. Sporadic fires at garbage landfills add to city's heat wave pollution.
