(Studio) Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards considered favorite in Louisiana governor race. Kentucky Governor Julian Carroll in tighter race due to busing conflict. Mississippi Governor William Waller cannot seek another term; race considered close.

(Jackson, Mississippi) Democrat Cliff Finch, 48, is attorney He runs workingman's campaign. Once week for 8-10 hrs., he works as blue collar worker. Republican Gil Carmichael, 48, is VW dealer and real estate dvtr. He campaigns for new Mississippi const.; mandatory schooling and vocational HS. [CARMICHAEL - says will be significant if 1st Republican governor in 100 years elected. Sees healthy rebirth of 2-party system if he's elected.] Finch upset Mississippi lieutenant governor in primary. Democrat establishment and AFL-CIO support him. [FINCH - says average citizen wants someone who understands their problems.] Independent Henry Kirksey, mapmaker, is 3rd candidate. Candidates appeal for black support.
