(Studio) Black Panther leader, Eldridge Cleaver, 39, fled United States in 1958; lived in Cuba, Algeria and France.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite
(Paris, France) Cleaver and wife Kathleen called at United States embassy to get reentry papers. [CLEAVER - felt in 1968 that he would be killed if went to prison. Feels his case will get objective scrutiny now. Black Panther party born and died under Ronald Reagan. If allowed to go through customs and immigration at airport, will keep on walking.] He expects to be arrested.
