(Studio) Chicago Mayor Richard Daley faces stiff opposition in Democrat mayoral race primary.

(Chicago, Illinois) To be toughest race for Daley in 20 years Alderman William Singer challenges Daley. Former prosecutor Edward Hanrahan and state senate Richard New house also running for mayor. 2 major Chicago newspapers endorse Singer. Daley refuses to discuss recent scandals in which close Daley cronies and proteges have been convicted. [SINGER - says Daley refuses to debate real issues or dismisses them as not relevant.] Daley counting on loyal organization to carry him through election.
